Planned Parenthood does many, many things for Women’s health. Believe me, I know. In fact, defunding it would be a terrible decision. Why? For the simple reason that, 2.4 million women, men, and adolescents in the United States visit Planned Parenthood affiliate health centers for trusted health care services and information in a single year.
For example, I myself have visited the clinic various occasions in previous years. As a teenager being able to hold a birth control prescription wasn’t an easy task all the time. Being that, I didn’t have the money to afford it monthly due to not having a job like most teens. Fast forward, I was introduced to Planned Parenthood and their high quality healthcare by one of my classmates. In a like manner, I did research on the facility and made an appointment over the phone. As a final point, I’m glad to say I was a client of Planned Parenthood and their services in the past.
Who is Planned Parenthood?
Planned Parenthood is one of the nation’s leading providers of high quality and affordable health care for women, men and young people. In addition, to being one of the nation’s largest provider of sex education. Furthermore, Planned Parenthood works with partner organizations worldwide to improve the sexual health and well being of individuals and families everywhere. Needless to say, it has 56 independent local affiliates that operate more than 600 health centers throughout the United States, providing high quality services to women, men, and teens.
As a feminist myself, I want to urge you to pressure the Senate to vote against the AHCA and the “defunding” of Planned Parenthood. In this link you will be able to find all the details you need to take a call of action, if your will is to support this cause. Considering, we all have at least one women in our life’s we care for, supporting this cause is a must.
4 Groups That Would Be Disproportionately Hurt by “Defunding” Planned Parenthood
- Families with low incomes.
- People of color.
- Those who reside in rural areas.
- The LGBTQ Community
As you can see it’s not the old, rich, white men, trying to shut Planned Parenthood down.
Additionally, Planned Parenthood has had attacks from critics who are unable to understand the necessary of their services. As a result, the time has come for a show of solidarity, as it can help the facility keep running. That is to say, any bit of support sent is a way to help the center keep doing what it does best. Defend women’s rights!
